History
Main Bank has a long history of serving Albuquerque’s personal and business banking needs. Originally chartered in 1975 as Plaza Del Sol National Bank, the bank has undergone a series of changes. In 1995, the bank was sold, became a state chartered bank called Interamerica Bank and moved to 2424 Louisiana Blvd., NE in Albuquerque. One year later, the bank opened a branch in Sunland Park, New Mexico. Then, in 1997 the bank was sold to the Fremont Bank Corporation of Canon City, Colorado. Several years later in 2005, the bank was purchased by Main Banc, Inc., who changed the name to Main Bank. In 2008, the bank closed the Sunland Park office to focus on local customers in Albuquerque. Four years later, in 2012, Main Bank acquired Bank 1st, an Albuquerque-based financial institution.
Locally owned and operated, Main Bank maintains its long-standing focus on creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs and building personal relationships with customers. We believe in reinvesting in the local economy as it benefits all who live and work in Albuquerque. Our local focus helps small businesses thrive, provides opportunities to help ideas grow and helps all customers build and maintain financial security.
Main Bank’s President and CEO, Alan Shettlesworth, currently sits on the FDIC Advisory Committee on Community Banking and Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City – Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council.
